Ludkins Collectables

Creating an Online Marketplace for Trading Card Game Enthusiasts

The Brief

q Kalexiko’s objective was to achieve this in a flawless design reflecting the world of Pokemon legends alongside the trusted Ludkins brand. An eBay experience for the platinum seekers of the rare card market, ensuring a buy and sell movement within a safe environment.

We needed to understand the basic elements or “Grass, “Fire” and “Lightening” of the TCG market fully to ensure optimum functionality of the site. The overall solution was dependent on our research into the industry and current competitors.

The accessible design enables sellers to create individual listings using the prebuilt database of cards supplied by Ludkins, or option to bulk upload. With each card dealing with its own attributes, users also have the ability to upload custom images.

The Challenge

With a total of 22559 Japanese cards each with nearly 100 variations, we were faced with a gargantuan task of building a robust database with multiple filters that would work smoothly for the initial launch and beyond. With the number of cards subject to increase as new series launch, the database needed to be resilient enough to enable fast easy “shuffling” or “searching” for that full deck of booster collectables or Poké-POWERS.

Moreover, to accommodate a worldwide market, we had to cater for multiple currencies for each user across Europe and beyond with varying shipping prices across the globe.

Our Approach

Significant features within the functionality needed to ensure Ludkins receive a percentage from the overall sale, for which we implemented with Paypal Adaptive Payments.

The key features of the database include a custom image uploaded and cropper; a customised Seller Manager with the option to bulk upload with CSV. Other core functionality included User Subscription Types and an Online Shop.
