Birmingham Square in Birmingham City, England United Kingdom
Birmingham Square
During the late 20th century the Birmingham square became a very busy traffic roundabout, with horses, horse carts, automobiles, buses and it became so busy something had to be done about it. The square had to be redeveloped and re-designed to cater for the demand for the pedestrians too. In August 1992, a fountain with a sculpture designed by Dhruva Mistry was erected, representing youth and eternity. Some call it the River, Guardians, Youth and Object and also known lovingly as The Floozie in the Jacuzzi.
The fountain won an award back in 1995. If you visit the upper pool of the fountain you will find a quotation from the famous poem Burnt Norton by the poet T. S. Eliot. Two sphinx-like creatures stand as guardians of the fountain at the lower end of the Birmingham City Square.
